The queen bee is vital for the honey house. In most cases she is the mother of all bees in the colony or in the hive. You will recognize the queen if you see all bees because she is larger than all other worker bees. That is not the only difference. Usually queen bees live ten times as long as worker bees and that is also very important feature. If a person has a few hives with bees, he usually marks it with a color dot, so that he could recognize it later, although it is not really necessary. If something happens to the queen bee, the worker bees should choose another one. They have to choose several larvae, and then they should feed them with royal jelly because it would help the queen morphology to develop. Special queen cells are constructed for these small larvae and there they are surrounded by royal jelly.
It is possible for the queen bee to lay about two thousand eggs per day. That is her most important quality. The queen usually has particular behavior; she could get aggressive sometimes. That's why when she sees that a strong bee has been born, she stands it to death. That bee could take her place later, so she prefers to get rid of it on time. The queens are really powerful because they release queen like scent or pheromones. The male honeybee is called drone. The drone dies soon after he mates with the queen bee.
The queen bee has to function as a reproducer. In good conditions during the spring, the queen could lay two thousands of eggs per day. There are always worker bees around the queen, so that they could meet all her needs. They could have called attendants, too, because they do the same job. Another interesting fact is that the female worker bees appear from the queen's fertilized eggs, and the drones develop from the unfertilized eggs.
It is not possible for the colony or the hive to have more than one queen bees. That is why the young queen bee gets aggressive when she notes a new potential queen. Sometimes there is a virgin queen bee in the hive. She is not as large as an ordinary queen, and she has still not mated with a male honeybee, also known as a drone. The virgin queens do not release so much pheromone. Sometimes even the worker bees can not recognize the virgin queen bee among all other bees. The virgin bees have very particular behavior when they get out of the queen cell. The most usual behavior for the virgin queen is to look for other virgin queen rivals, and after that she will do an attempt to kill them. The queens kill other bees by stinging them to death. We all know that if the worker bees sting something or someone, they will die immediately. But it is not the same for the queens because they could sting a lot of times and they will not die. If you have also been stung by a worker bee, you have to know that the feeling is not really nice, is it?
